For those looking for a more adrenaline-filled outdoor activity you might want to take a drive out from Kas towards Kibris Canyon. Just a 90-minute drive away, one can find a more hands-on exploration of the naturally sculptured landscape. According to geologists that around 200 million years ago this mountainous region was simply sediment sitting at the bottom of a primaeval sea known as Tethys. With the passage of time, the layers of this sediment began to build up. This kept occurring for another 50 million years, rising up and thus creating the Taurus Mountain range of southern Turkey. Nowadays a lush pine forest covers the steep mountainsides, while on the gentler slopes you can see the apple, almond, walnut and other fruit trees growing. But what Kibris is really known for is a popular canyoning spot. If you aren’t shy of heights and a confident swimmer, this medium level canyoning experience should not go amiss during your trip to Turkey. Organised tours with specialists and equipment can easily be arranged. The best period to go canyoning in Turkey is between the months of June to August as these are the months where rainfall is sparser.

Once you have gotten your thrills and chills, go relax your body at either Kaputas Beach, Aquarium Bay or Kas Ancient Theatre.
