Do I have to tip the captain/crew, and if so what's the standard amount?
At Farout Yachting tipping is purely voluntary, we try to promote tipping on the event that you have received quality and exceptional service.
If you do decide that you want to tip the captain or crew - if they've been professional, helpful, gracious, etc - then it's customary to pay 5% to 15% of the total charter amount before you leave the boat on the last day. When there are multiple crew members – passengers are encouraged to give the tip to the captain who will then distribute the amount equally between the crew.
Do the yachts have air conditioning?
Yes, some yachts do have air conditioning. Please take note when searching for your yacht charter or cabin charter if air conditioning is listed in the specifications if it is required.
Why are only 12 people allowed on some boats?
International Marine regulation generally states that once a vessel carries more than 12 passengers, even if it is being used as a private yacht, it is considered to be a passenger ship and has to comply with the SOLAS Convention (Safety of Life at Sea) set out by the IMO (International Maritime Organization). This is most commonly used with travel from Turkey to Greece and vice versa. If your yacht charter is only travelling in Turkish waters your yacht can carry additional passengers.
SOLAS involves adhering to a comprehensive list of stringent safety restrictions that are expensive to implement and this is reflected in the chartering cost increase between boats licensed for up to 12 passengers and boats licensed for more than 12 passengers.
Farout Yachting has a good selection of yachts that can travel in international waters with large groups. For more information please get in touch.
Booking, payment & cancellations
How do I book a private/cabin charter?
Private charter: The best way to book a private charter is to contact us with a detailed description of what you are looking for your holiday at sea. The things we need to know to get you started are how many people are travelling, the destination you would like to visit and departure dates. If you have a yacht in mind too, that would be great. From there we can give you a detailed response of availability and get down to the smaller details of your cruise. Once you are happy with all the details, we will be happy to book your trip in. Please be aware that a 50% deposit is required at time of booking to confirm your yacht. For most packages, final payment is due 30 days before your departure date. In some cases, the balance can be made on arrival.
Cabin cruise: Once you have decided on which cabin cruise you would like to take and your departure dates please just follow the ‘book’ button from the itinerary overview page of the cruise you would like. This will take you through to our booking manager. Alternatively, you can visit https://booking.faroutturkey.com
How far in advance should I book my Farout Yachting charter?
Private charters: To book a private yacht charter we recommend booking at least three months in advance. If you are looking to rent a particular yacht (especially luxury or deluxe classes) please try and book six months in advance. For high season these yachts are often booked a year before the departure date.
Cabin Cruises: In low season cabin cruises can be booked anywhere up to 1 day before the departure date. We, however, recommend that you book your cruise as soon as you know your dates thus not to miss out on your preferred travel dates.
In high season our cabin cruises can book up 3 -4 weeks before the departure date. Please book as soon as possible.
For both private charter and cabin cruises popular departure dates coincide with bank holidays, Turkish holidays and European ‘high summer’ months of July and August, so book early to guarantee your place.
Once I book a charter how do I pay?
Payments can be made via money transfer, cash to our Fethiye office, Paypal or credit card.
What if I want to cancel my charter?
Our terms and conditions document states what happens in various circumstances if the charter is cancelled. We recommend travel insurance to all our clients. Travel insurance covers your group in case of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. This insurance will protect you from any loss of cancellation fees. For more information regarding cancellation terms and fees please visit our terms and conditions page.
What is the "APA"?
APA is the Advance Provisioning Allowance. When renting motor yachts we require an APA. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain of the Boat to provision on your behalf. Your APA represents the operating expenses that you will incur during your stay on board. Deductions from the APA include fuel for the yacht, berthing fees, custom charges, harbour fees, divers’ fees where required, shore-side electricity and water where required, food and beverages.
For sailing yachts expect 20 to 25% to be added on and for motor yachts 30 to 35%. You will pay this with your final charter payment. The Captain is obligated to keep all receipts and balance the account for you, and you can check the expenditure level at any time during the charter.
At the end of the charter, the Captain will give you a full account of your expenses, and any amounts not used will be refunded to you. There are no mark-ups on the APA - all of the funds go directly to buying fuel, food, etc. The APA is a simple and efficient way of getting the boat provisioned properly, with minimal hassle and straightforward record keeping.
