TRIPOLIS ANCIENT CITY
The beauty of Turkish landmarks and rich historical heritage one most easily can see if by visiting the district of Denizli. This district has many different areas to be visited and explored because that way everyone can enrich his life experience and complement the knowledge.
Tripolis is an ancient city located 20 kilometres to the northwest side of Pamukkale. This city is on a slope and its exact location is between the Menderes River and the town called Yenicekent. Throughout history, Tripolis had many names. In the beginning, its name was Apollonia, then changed in Antoniopolis, and only then the name Tripolis came on the line. This name was retained until the end, as a sign of the junction between the towns of Phrygia, Caria and Lydia.
Tripoli visitors can see various buildings during a tour of the city. One of the most important attractions is the Theatre. As you would expect for a building of this type, it was in the city centre, so people could gather to enjoy and follow different performances. The Theater was built by the Greeks, but it closely resembles the Roman theatre in its construction. It is believed that the theatre was large enough to accommodate up to 10,000 people, although a big part of it is demolished. In addition, visitors may find interesting to see the Water Channels, which brought water from Guney country. In Roman times the city was surrounded by a protective wall, with a thickness of about 2 meters, and these buildings were accompanied by a watchtower.
Denizli district visitors can enjoy visiting other interesting sites, such as an ancient city Tabea, then fantastic, and the well-known ancient city of Hierapolis, or at the end not less important ancient city Laodekeia.
