One of the smaller Greek islands in the Dodecanese chain, Pserimos is comparable to a tiny piece of heaven. A short boat ride from Kalymnos will you bring you to this remote beauty. The island has a reported population of 130 people and relies heavily on tourism. Standing between Kalymnos and Kos and facing the coast of Turkey, it is inevitable to stop at this secluded island. This island is a favourite among Greek and foreign vacationers and perfect for those looking for a day trip or to disconnect from everyday life. Pserimos Island is one of the most remote islands in Greece.

Things to do at Pserimos
The biggest attraction of Pserimos is the atmosphere of the island. It has a mysterious air from being so untouched. With crystalline water and immaculate landscape, it is impossible to not feel at peace wherever you look. This small idyllic island has the ability to take you into another time. As the island facilities are basic; it is advisable to bring your own necessities. The main beach is at Avlakia. This charming settlement spread out by the harbour of the island and is also its capital. You will notice there are no definite roads here other than the pine trees and whitewashed houses marking out the area. There are several other isolated beaches accessible by a short hike such as Vathy, Glistra, Marathonda and Grafiotissa. Spearfishing, snorkelling and diving are ideal in the sparkling waters.


There are a few shipwrecks that any diving enthusiast can visit. These beaches also offer great sunset-watching spots. Another great sunset spot away from the beach is the Chapel of Panagia Grafiotissa, located on the west side of the island. There are a few other historical ruins spread throughout Pserimos, such as pottery fragments from a Hellenistic altar, relics in the church of Archangel Michael and the whitewashed imposing Church of Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The island also offers a few accommodation options and taverns. Try some of the fresh fish with a side of capper or the local speciality, braised lamb with pasta.

How to get to Pserimos
To reach Pserimos you can take a fifty-minute ferry journey from either Kalymnos or Kos. Other enchanting islands located in the in Dodecanese islands worth visiting are Patmos and Leros.
