PATMOS
The legend of Patmos is quite a beautiful one. The island used to be under the ocean and only visible when the moon goddess Selene would shine over it. Another goddess noticed the island one night, fell in love with the island and wanted it for herself. So she requested permission from the Gods to rise it out of the ocean and thanks to the powerful Zeus the island now stands where it is today. There is a large monastery, sometimes mistaken for a fortress, that overshadows the island from every possible viewpoint. It is called the Monastery of St John the Divine and is worth the visit when you anchor down on the island. The monastery provides some amazing views over the island and the beautiful ocean surrounding it. It is rich in history, dating back as far as 1090, and has many chapels and churches you can go into and explore.
