Hidden in the trees and natural landscape of Olympos is the ancient Lycian city of Olympos. Dating back to 2nd Century BC, these ruins were once inhabited by the Lycians, then the Romans and later into the Middle Ages the Venetians. It was once the largest city in ancient Lycia, taking its name from Mount Olympos, thought to be the present-day Tahtali Mountain. To access the ancient city, you can approach it from the end of the road or from the beach of Cirali. As for the ruins, you can explore the area to see the theatre, ancient baths, acropolis, agora and the gymnasium. For a small entrance fee, the track takes you down to the beachfront, with the ruins either side of your walkway. You can go for a short swim to cool down on a hot day. The surrounding area also offers the best conditions to go hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, rock climbing and sea kayaking. Be sure to get off the main track and go further into the shrubbery to explore beyond what you can originally see.
