KUMLUBUK BAY
Kumlubuk Bay
Viewable from the harbour at Marmaris Kumlubuk Bay has one of the largest stretches of beach on the peninsula. Its name means Sandy Bay, appropriately named once you see how underdeveloped it is. With its unblemished shoreline, golden to where it meets the turquoise water. Even during the high summer season the beach seldom feels crowded, as there is so much space. Along the two sweeping bays are restaurants scattered by the waterfront, catering to passing yachts either for lunch or an overnight stay. If you walk to the southern side of the bay there are cleaner waters, a charming cove where boats drop anchor for travellers to take a relaxing swim break.
One curiosity about the bay is that Kumlubuk was home to Turkey’s wealthiest magnate, Ayhan Sahenk who purchased most of the land in the two bays. He ensured that these beaches remained open for all to enjoy and that the panoramic view across the bays is protected for generations to come. An especially romantic view if you stick around for the sunsets.
