The ancient city of Kas has one spectacular feature, it’s superbly preserved Hellenistic theatre. If you are already in the centre of this city take a 5-10 minute stroll out of town, follow the coastal road towards the theatre. There you will find the remaining picturesque evidence of this ancient Lycian City, lying among olive trees and rocky hills. This theatre was built during the first quarter of the First Century BCE from local limestone. In recent years this theatre has been restored using the same local limestone and host to public events. The seating looks so neat from its recent restorations you cannot help but take some time to sit and contemplate life or just quietly admire the Greek island of Meis. If you go to the upper rows of the theatre you can also glance at Kas’ harbour, the town and the islets. Although well preserved it is not the most mind-blowing ancient theatre you will see around Turkey. But for the history buffs among us, it’s only a short hike from town if you don't want to miss out.
One you had a refreshing drink, picnic or watched the sunset from the limestone seats you might want to venture to explore other ancient cities in the area such as Aperlai Ancient City, Apollonia Ancient City and Kibris Canyon.
