Translated from the Turkish, Saklikent means the Hidden City. The Saklikent Gorge is 20 kilometres long and is at 40 minutes drive from Fethiye. Thanks to the incredible length of the canyon, it is in second place for its size in Europe, just behind the Samaria Gorge, and in Turkey is in the first place if we compare both length and depth. This Gorge was declared a National Part in 1996 and is therefore protected by the state. Under the protection of the Government are also 1,643 hectares which belong to this part. Saklikent Gorge is near the Taurus Mountains, which during the winter makes these areas almost impassable, and the water from the Gorge slowly travel to Xanthos River.
