SYEDRA ANCIENT CITY
Syedra Ancient City is another city situated on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea just south-east away from Antalya. Here you will find more ancient ruins on the southern coast of Turkey. Syedra seems to be established in the third century BC and bore importance as a Roman city from some inscriptions and coins that were found here. Spend a few hours here on exploring the whole city and its breath-taking views. The ruins are in two parts, where one part is down by the ocean, where all the supplies were bought in from an ancient port. Then the second part all the way up into the mountains where the population would have lived, well-protected behind the large thick City Walls. The centre of the city was composed of a collonaded square and some of the columns still bear inscriptions. There are also ruins of a temple, baths and city gate. From the upper part of the City, there are sweeping views down across the countryside and onto the coastline. The ruins have not been fully explored as yet, so not a lot is known about them.
For other mesmerising ancient cities take the time to travel to Pednelissos Ancient City, Selge Ancient City and Side Ancient City.
