Side Ancient City near Antalya has some of the most notable ruins down in this area of southern Turkey. Rich in history, this ancient city showcases ruins and give insight into hundreds of years of Greek life during the Roman Empire. This ancient city is located close to the sea; it was once a trading port though it seemed to be more prominent with piracy. It is intriguing to see the ancient ruins that demonstrate traits of Roman and Greek cultures. A sort of fusion design at work in the olden times – a combination of Hellenic plans and Roman construction. Among these ruins are the temples to Apollo and Athena, so beautifully perched on the edge of Side’s harbour. Other ruins you will want to explore are the old theatres, the Roman baths, a nymphaeum, Hellenic gate, an aqueduct and the collonaded main street. The most impressive and the main attraction is the 2nd Century AD theatre. A fantastic example of the Roman construction at the time. The ruins have been excavated since 1947 and are still under constant archaeological interest. There is also a museum within the ruins that houses the Roman artefacts that have been found amongst the ruins.
