There is no shortage of amazing ancient cities to visit within the region of Antalya. If you have already been to Perge you will probably pass or notice this other ancient city. Sillyon Ancient City is located on the top and around a mountain in Pamphylia, near Antalya. These ruins are famous as it is one City that Alexander the Great could not conquer. It was also birthplace to some notable people in history such as Saint Antony the Younger, Constantine II of Constantinople and Antony I of Constantinople. While the ruins here are dating back to the 5th century BC they bear evidence from many different eras. Influence from Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Pergamon and partly Sejuk eras. Walk past the ancient city gates, take a seat in the stadium, visit the amphitheatre and view the odeon.
There is also an temple, cistern, gymnasium and medieval castle. Landslides threaten many of these ruins because the city is located atop a rocky plateau. Sillyon was also known to have minted its own coins from the early 3rd century up to the reign of the Roman emperor Aurelian in the 270s.
